Fun Learning Activities for Your Child
You can make yoga fun by playing games such as “Yogi says,” Bingo, or memory games; singing or using storybooks; or doing partner poses. Let these resources show you how:

  • Fifty Fun Yoga Activities for Kids and Adults by Tara Guber & Leah Kalish (Barefoot Books, 2005)
  • The Kids Yoga Deck: Fifty Poses and Games by Annie Buckley (Chronicle Books, 2006)
  • Spiraling Hearts (SpiralingHearts.com) Matching Games (match a card with a butterfly and one with the butterfly pose and do the pose) Bingo (find and do the pose as it is called by the BINGO caller) Coloring Book (practice fine motor skills by coloring and do the poses for practice with gross motor and other skill development)

CDs and DVDs.
Use these CDs and DVDs to nurture the whole child with movement, music, books, and games.

  • StoryBook Yoga by Dr. Suzy Lederer (www.edact.com)
Select a book to share that has at least three of the animals or natural wonders on the CD. These are your yoga “opportunities.” When one of the animals or natural wonders appears in the story, pause, turn on the CD, and do the yoga poses. Begin with the book song and end with the relaxation song to complete your StoryBook yoga lesson.
  • YogaKids Fun Collection by Marsha Wenig (www.gaiam.com)
Award-winning activities to nurture development of the whole child through yoga.

Websites/Training Programs
There are many websites devoted exclusively to yoga for children. They include information about yoga for kids, training programs, names of certified teachers in your area, boutiques, and more. These are the ones we know the best. In fact, both authors trained under Jodi Komitor of Next Generation Yoga, and we thank her for inspiring our own yoga practice and our yoga work with young children and families.
