Directions

Encourage your child to express his or her opinion with questions such as these:

• Which would you rather be, the President of the U.S. or a movie star?
• Would you rather have the power to be invisible or the power to fly?
• Which do you like better, waterfalls or ocean waves?
• Would you rather drive a fire truck or a motorcycle?
• Would you rather have a pet elephant or a pet monkey?
• Would you rather be in a room with a mosquito or a mouse?

Extension

Ask follow-up questions to learn more about your child’s preference. Share your own ideas as well. If other kids or family members are around, ask their opinions too, and invite discussion:

• Why would you choose that?
• Interesting. I think I agree. I think a monkey would be a terrific pet. But Daddy disagrees. He says he would much rather have a pet elephant.
• If we were stuck in a room with a mosquito, what would you suggest we do? That’s good advice!
