About the Site

This site gives you ways to encourage your child's natural interest in math, and to provide the foundation for math experiences that your child will draw from later in school.

Keeping in mind that every child's growth and development is unique, we offer you a continuum of developmentally appropriate concepts from birth to second grade, as well as ways to explore them. In addition to interactive games that you can do with your child on the computer, the site provides hands-on, printable activities that can be done almost anywhere - in the home, at the grocery store, in the car, or on special occasions.

Our Mission Statement

To help parents and caregivers...

• reveal the scope of math. Math is more than counting! Activities on this site link math to art, movement, games and nature and help kids see that math is everywhere.
• promote a conscious use of math. "Parent Pointers" help parents bring mathematical thinking from the intuitive to the conscious level, using conversation to strengthen and extend understanding.
• help their children develop a "math lens" with strategies that parents can use every day - at home, in the car, at the grocery store and more.
• make math enjoyable. Online and offline activities present math and problem-solving in playful contexts. The focus is on fun, observation and creativity.
• motivate the usefulness of math. As parents share their mathematical thinking, they help kids see that math is a useful tool in making sense of the world.
