Martha Speaks

Martha

What happens when a dog accidentally eats alphabet soup? She learns to talk! That's what happened to Martha, the star of this fun and engaging program. Martha is outspoken, confident, smart and has an amazing vocabulary. She loves learning -- and using -- new words. Her best friend is 10-year-old Helen, who acts as Martha's voice of reason (not that Martha always listens!).

Produced by the creators of Curious George and Arthur, Martha Speaks, is based on the children's book series by Susan Meddaugh.

For children 4 to 7 years old.

Series Goals

  • To increase children's oral vocabulary; the words they use when talking.
  • To encourage children to practice using new words on a daily basis.

Helping Kids Prepare for School

Martha Speaks is designed to help children understand the meaning of words when they hear them, even if they can’t read them yet. Up to 20 new words are featured in each episode. Building vocabulary is an important factor in developing reading skills. It will also help children to do better in school.
